The City of Gold Coast, HOTA Christmas Wall Projection
The 2021 Christmas Projection Project will see the surface of the HOTA Gallery light up with the projected images of Christmas on the Gold Coast in a visual feast for the whole community.
The Vision
HOTA Home of the Arts is the beating cultural heart of the Gold Coast and offers inspiration, discovery and connection to capture the local communities imagination.
The creative brief for this project requires this installation to have a strong message and thematic by using recognisable Christmas iconography, imagery and motifs. Key references to native or Australian Christmas and encouraged to showcase Gold Coast Culture and what it means to celebrate the Christmas period against a Gold Coast coastline during Summer. Native animals, flora, fauna and geographical representation was also strongly encouraged.

The Process
IKONIX was thrilled to be able to work in collaboration with HOTA in creating the 2021 Christmas projections. Having already worked with the building allowed us to apply previous test results and experiences and improve on previous applications. The gallery building is unique for projection as it's shape and colour limit what images and colours we are able to use. With a clear brief from the Council and HOTA as well as the technical understanding of the project our Content team and Technical team were able to previz and execute the project in the timeframe required.
The Solution
Christmas on the Gold Coast projections was a great success with events like the Carols and Markets taking place within the HOTA precinct throughout the holiday period.
